Hello, hello, it's Kirsty here from Bonjour Quilts with another weekend newsletter for you.
I finally finished my throw size Halloween quilt, yay! I was planning to send it off to the longarmer but I realised with a two-week turn around, half of October would be gone before I got it back. So I made the scary decision...to quilt it myself. Let's just say it wasn't the most fun I've had quilting!
But you can read all about it in this new blog post, with plenty of photos.
βThe blog post also records my attempts to put both our cats in Halloween costumes for a photo shoot with the quilt. *shaking head sadly* ππ
Here's a tutorial to sew a cute little Halloween drawstring bag, perfect for a handful of treats.
I've also got an easy appliquΓ© Happy Skull cushion that is just the ticket for younger kids who like their Halloween decor more on the friendly side!
I've mentioned both of these before, but in case you missed it here's my Patchwork Skull Block tutorial (you can see a cute version of this in Stephanie's fabulous Halloween sampler quilt) and my thorough dive into my favourite Halloween quilt patterns.
These hand embroidered journals are stunning!

My favourite part of the newsletter! I love seeing the gorgeous quilts you've made from Bonjour Quilts patterns. Keep sending in your photos (just hit reply to this email) or tag me on Instagram or Facebook.
Here's Irene's gorgeous Up and Away quilt, made for her adorable granddaughter. I love how Irene has used a small scale pattern fabric and picked out one colour from the print to use as an accent.
To see more of this pattern, I have blog posts showing 3 versions in blue, yellow and green.
Cheryl (like many of us) regularly undertakes scrappy projects to try and keep her scrap piles at a reasonable level. Here are two amazing quilts she's sewn using the Scrappy Cross block tutorial.
Isn't it fascinating how different these quilts are despite being based on the same block? They are both so beautiful and go to show there's gold in them there scrap bags!
βRachel's gorgeous Scrappy Lattice quilt was made from the remnants of a single fabric collection she had left over from another project. This is a very elegant outcome for a "scrappy" quilt!
βAmanda has sewn a fabulous version of the Making Waves quilt. I really love her colour selection and placement.
Another beauty, this time a Mountainside quilt made in soothing, soft hues by Jennifer. She made it with double batting and a minky backing - can you imagine how soft and snuggly this would be? But what a monster to quilt!
Hala did an incredible job on her ENORMOUS yellow and grey king size Diamonds in the Deep quilt. This was such a big project - congratulations Hala on creating a beautiful quilt!
It makes my day to see what you do with these patterns so please keep sending them in (just hit reply), or tag me on Instagram or Facebook.
It's a busy weekend here. Sports, gardening, and one child and one husband competing in the Coolangatta Gold. There'll be no time for sewing, but it will be a fun-filled weekend. I hope yours is too!
Here's a teaser photo -
Come over to my most recent blog post as it has several photos of cats in Halloween costumes. ππ You'll love it!
Until next time,
Kirsty x

Hello, hello, it's Kirsty here from Bonjour Quilts with another weekend newsletter for you. Grab a cup/glass of your favourite beverage and let's dive in! The Quilter's Planner 2024 I'm very proud to announce that I'm a part of the Quilter's Planner for 2024! I've loved these planners ever since I received one at Quilt Market in Houston in 2017. I'm so happy to be part of the 2024 edition. 2024's Quilter's Planner has block instructions from 12 guest designers, which fit together with a...
Hello, hello, it's Kirsty here from Bonjour Quilts with another weekend newsletter for you. What I'm Sewing... I've almost finished my green and low-volume scrap quilt top - very appropriate given The Modern Quilt Guild tells me that today (Nov 4) is International Scrap Sorting Day. Sounds good to me! I keep my scraps in clear bags in a cupboard, and I love having them pre-sorted and on hand. I'm sure there are a million ways different people define a scrap, but mine all have to be smaller...
Hello, hello, it's Kirsty here from Bonjour Quilts with another weekend newsletter for you. What I'm Sewing... Right now I'm piecing a black minky backing for a Halloween quilt. This fabric is so delightfully soft and snuggly, but it's a pain to sew. Just a pile of black minky? Wait... Eeek! Watch the pins, Lulu. I have a blog post outlining how I previously sewed a baby quilt with a minky backing over here, if you're interested. Speaking of Halloween - it's only a day until October starts....
