Purr-fect Quilts and Inspiring Links For You! 🧡πŸͺ‘πŸˆπŸˆβ€β¬›

Hello, hello, it's Kirsty here from Bonjour Quilts with another weekend newsletter for you.

What I'm Sewing...

Right now I'm piecing a black minky backing for a Halloween quilt. This fabric is so delightfully soft and snuggly, but it's a pain to sew.

I have a blog post outlining how I previously sewed a baby quilt with a minky backing over here, if you're interested.

Speaking of Halloween - it's only a day until October starts. It's officially Halloween season. (I'm not a big Halloween fan, but seeing as I'm a Christmas tragic, the onset of Halloween means that my favourite season is not far away!)

I have a fun blog post here where I show off the most amazing Halloween quilts and quilt blocks that I've found across the internet (as well as some of my own patterns 'made Halloweeny'). Whether you want to sew something small and quick, or something large and epic, this blog post will give you a ton of ideas. Oh, and the last photo in this blog post shows the very quilt top I'm making my minky backing for. Yes, it's taken me a whole year to get around to it! *shame*

Interesting Links around the Interwebs

Here's a tutorial to sew some cute scrappy apples (these could also double as pumpkins if you sewed them in orange fabrics).

I enjoyed this article showing off some gorgeous ceramics. The shapes and colour combinations are very inspiring.

This artist uses paper and cardboard, but I feel you could have some similar fun with scraps and appliquΓ©.

Wondering what to do with all your mismatched knives and forks? This artist will turn them into something beautiful!

Reader Quilts

My favourite part of the newsletter! I love seeing the gorgeous quilts you've made from Bonjour Quilts patterns. Keep sending in your photos (just hit reply to this email) or tag me on Instagram or Facebook.

Deanna made this gorgeous Radiant quilt for her nephew in his university colours:

Here's Anja's golden version of Scrappy Lattice:

Cathy sewed up a dreamy version of the Scrappy Posie baby quilt.

I'm always impressed with what people come up with using the Skull Quilt Block tutorial and Jan's quilt is no different. She has used the block as part of this fantastic king size quilt for her daughter and son-in-law. Perfect for October!

Karen needed to make a quilt for a pink and green themed nursery and chose the Lollies quilt pattern (with her own clever triangle border):

Mary has sewn up a stunning Go West quilt:

Breeze has created this fabulous red-print Diamonds in the Deep.

Sarah's now got two Scrap Magnet blocks all sewn up.

Christina entered this beautiful two-fabric version of Up And Away in her first quilt contest. β€οΈπŸ‘Œ

It makes my day to see these patterns come to life with your hands, and I know fellow newsletter readers love seeing these patterns made up in different fabrics. Keep sending them in (just hit reply), or tag me on Instagram or Facebook.

What's Happening at Chez Bonjour

I'm happy - it's a long weekend, the weather's fine and the Christmas stuff is starting to appear in the shops (never too early for me, ha).

We are at the end of the kids' Term 3 school holidays - they'll be back for the last term of the school year on Tuesday. This is our youngest child's last term in primary school (elementary school, for my North American friends). I have mixed emotions!

We had a lovely outing in Brisbane (about an hour away from us) at "Lightscape" in the Botanical Gardens. It was magical!

The Cat's Corner

Given how popular the cats have been in past newsletters (sometimes I get more emails about them than my patterns. Ahem.) I decided to give them the last word from now on.

I also had a reader email me and ask if they are ever awake. They are - but they're quite active so it's hard to get them to hold still for a photo!

But here's one of Tigger wide awake and in the process of destroying a cardboard box:

Here's Tigger regretting a recent life choice (not sure which one, probably when he licked his own sister's butt):

Lulu's awake in this one:

But mostly they're like this:

Sleeping cats are good for my blood pressure. πŸ˜ƒ I know you're all here for quilts, so if I go too heavy on the cats for you, let me know.

Until next time,

Kirsty x

Bags of colourful quilting scrap fabrics

Hello, hello, it's Kirsty here from Bonjour Quilts with another weekend newsletter for you. What I'm Sewing... I've almost finished my green and low-volume scrap quilt top - very appropriate given The Modern Quilt Guild tells me that today (Nov 4) is International Scrap Sorting Day. Sounds good to me! I keep my scraps in clear bags in a cupboard, and I love having them pre-sorted and on hand. I'm sure there are a million ways different people define a scrap, but mine all have to be smaller...

Hello, hello, it's Kirsty here from Bonjour Quilts with another weekend newsletter for you. What I'm Sewing... I finally finished my throw size Halloween quilt, yay! I was planning to send it off to the longarmer but I realised with a two-week turn around, half of October would be gone before I got it back. So I made the scary decision...to quilt it myself. Let's just say it wasn't the most fun I've had quilting! But you can read all about it in this new blog post, with plenty of photos. The...
