Hello, hello! It's Kirsty here with all the latest in your weekend Bonjour Quilts newsletter. Happy reading!
I'm very happy to show you a project I've been working on behind the scenes - a lap quilt pattern that's published in the latest issue of Make Modern Magazine (Issue No. 53).
The pattern is called Special Delivery and features a veritable gaggle of flying geese. The layout reminded me of the triangle shape that forms the back of an envelope, hence the name.
Make Modern Magazine is a wonderful e-magazine (PDF only) that is published 6 times a year by a talented Australian crew.
You can grab Issue 53 as a one-off purchase (US$10 or AUD$12) on their website here.
But the best value for money is the annual subscription (6 issues) for US$40 or AUD$50, which you can find here.
If you do grab a subscription, know that you're helping to support a fantastic independent publisher. โค๏ธ (thank you!)
When quilts and woodwork collide the result is actually very pretty indeed.
A 2 minute Youtube video showing some amazing portraits made from unexpected materials (all found in your rubbish bin).
Some clever art pieces all made from paper. There are some really lovely, saturated colour schemes here too.
An Instagram account full of beautiful beading and embroidery.
My favourite part of the newsletter! I love seeing the gorgeous quilts you've been making from Bonjour Quilts patterns. Keep sending in your photos (just hit reply to this email) or tag me on Instagram or Facebook.
Emily sewed up this beautifully colourful Scrappy Posie baby quilt. Such a fun way to put a multi-coloured collection of scraps to good use.
Izzy also created a sweet and bright Scrappy Posie (you can read more about it over here on her blog). It's fun to see this pattern made in two ways, with a light and dark background.
Jill created a lovely When You Wish....baby mat in autumn hues. I love the addition of the black polka dot border.
Jenny upsized my skull patchwork block tutorial to make a larger quilt for her daughter-in-law's birthday. It's fabulous!
Another clever pattern edit - Dawn added some extra columns to her Diamonds in the Deep quilt top to get the square lap quilt she needed.
Here's a pretty Diamonds in the Deep that I found on Pinterest the other day - I don't know the name of the sewist but she made it as a wedding gift. It would be right at home in Elsa's Frozen palace.
โGreen Envy Creations made this fabulous Diamonds in the Deep - I love how two of her blocks are escaping into the border. She did a wonderful job quilting it too.
And finally, here's Betsy's bold and beautiful Go West quilt. Perfection!
We're back to the usual routine of school and sports here in the Bonjour household. Our yard improvement project is still going strong. Last Sunday was a planting frenzy and the husband is out priming the back fence for painting as I type.
The cats are still keeping us in stitches. One of their regular 5 hour naps ended up like this:
It's a bit hard to see what's going on so here it is from the other direction.
Yes, that is Lulu's head up her brother Tigger's butt.
Mind you, they both seem very comfortable, so who am I to judge?
And finally, it appears I have a case of tennis elbow (despite not playing tennis). If anyone has any hot tips on how to make it go away quickly I'd love to hear it (other than rest and obviously not painting back fences!)
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend - one heavy on quilting and lighter on cat butts. ๐
Until next time,
Kirsty x

Hello, hello, it's Kirsty here from Bonjour Quilts with another weekend newsletter for you. What I'm Sewing... I've almost finished my green and low-volume scrap quilt top - very appropriate given The Modern Quilt Guild tells me that today (Nov 4) is International Scrap Sorting Day. Sounds good to me! I keep my scraps in clear bags in a cupboard, and I love having them pre-sorted and on hand. I'm sure there are a million ways different people define a scrap, but mine all have to be smaller...
Hello, hello, it's Kirsty here from Bonjour Quilts with another weekend newsletter for you. What I'm Sewing... I finally finished my throw size Halloween quilt, yay! I was planning to send it off to the longarmer but I realised with a two-week turn around, half of October would be gone before I got it back. So I made the scary decision...to quilt it myself. Let's just say it wasn't the most fun I've had quilting! But you can read all about it in this new blog post, with plenty of photos. The...
